Background: European soccer -- and in a friendly match, Hungary have beaten yugoslavia four-three after taking an early lead that seemed unbeatable at one stage. But towards the end of the game in Budapest the visitors recovered quickly enough to begin posing a serious threat before the final whistle saved the day for Hungary.

SYNOPSIS: Hungary, in the dark shirts, opened their score with a corner kick. It was initially fended off by the Yugoslav 'keeper, but picked up by Kereki and put into the back of the net.

The home side's lead was quickly built up to two-nil with a free kick from outside the Yugoslav penalty area. Torocsik scored after another initial save by the visiting 'keeper.

Yugoslavia began picking up towards the end of the first half, with a break down the wing giving Susics a chance to open their own score.

One minute left in the first half, with Yugoslavia trying to remedy their poor start.

But some over-enthusiastic play in the second half resulted in a Yugoslav foul on Torocsik.

There referee's whistle was hotly disputed. But a second slow-motion replay leaves little doubt that it was a foul, even though perhaps accidental.

Hungary did not miss their chance to make it a three-one lead with the penalty by Varadi.

Torocsik quickly scored again to build up a seemingly-unbeatable four-one lead.

But Yugoslavia did not despair. A quick rally gave Susics his second goal from a corner kick. Hungary four, Yugoslavia two.

Yugoslavia seemed to gain fresh life--and quickly made it four-three with a superb goal from at least twenty yards (metres) outside the penalty area. But the score remained there--with the visitors beaten by the final whistle as much as anything else.
