    Background: TORONTO, CANADA

The annual joint meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank has ended in Canada with a promise of aid to war-torn Lebanon. World Bank President Tom Clausen said in Toronto the bank will co-ordinate the collection of the low-cost loans to help in the task of reconstruction. The managing director of the IMF, Jacques de Larosiere, said Argentina had asked for assistance in propping up its tottering economy. IMF officials will be sent to Argentina, which has an estimated 40 billion U.S. dollars in foreign debts, for talks with the government. The IMF also said it backs the American administration's anti-inflation philosophy.
