Background: The Heads of State of ten of the 41 member countries of the Organisation of African Unity have been gathering in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, for the tenth annual OAU summit meeting and the anniversary celebrations. Two Prime Minister, five Vice-Presidents and the Prince Hassan were also among the representatives attending.
The summit meeting on Saturday (26 May) follows two days of festivities and speech making.
The Ministerial Council of the OAU has been holding intensive discussions in Addis Ababa for a week to prepare a general policy declaration and an economic declaration.
The policy declaration will pledge OAU members to "effectively and actively support the Arab liberation of the occupied territories resulting from the Israeli aggression in June 1967."
The visiting heads of state were welcomed at Addis Ababa airport by Emperor hails Selassie of Ethiopia. Among the later arrivals were President Tolbert of Liberia' President and Madame Ngouabi of the Congo; the President of Nigeria, General Gowon; President Moussa Traore of Mali and President Amin of Uganda.
SYNOPSIS: A procession of African heads of state, including President William Tolbert of Liberia, have been arriving in Addis Ababa to a welcome from Ethiopian Emperor, Haile Selassie. The occasion was the tenth annual summit meeting of the Organisation of African Unity.
As well as ten heads of state, two prime ministers, five vice-president sand the Crown Prince of Morocco are among representatives from the 41 member countries who are attending.
The President of the People's Republic of the Congo, Commandant Marien Ngoiuabi and Madame Ngouabi were the next arrivals. Haile Selassie has described the anniversary as an opportunity to draw up blueprint for action in the next twenty-five years.
The Nigerian head of state, General Yakubu Gowon was also accompanied by his wife.
President Moussa Traore of Mali stands to attention to receive the military honours accorded to all the visiting head of state.
The final arrival was General Idi Amin of Uganda.
Among the Medalo General Amin is wearing is the insignia of the Israeli paratroopers he was awarded after completing a course in Israel. He introduced the Ugandan airforce commander.
