Background: President Kennedy held a press conference at the New State Department building in Washington February 14. It was the first opportunity the press had to question him since the return to the U.S.A. of Francis Gary Powers, the American espionage plane pilot who was imprisoned in Russia on a spying charge and has been recently released. Mr. Powers is currently being interviewed at a secret location by U.S. Intelligence officials.
