IN TODAY'S SECOND EVENT, AUSTRALIA KELVIN CARRUTHERS CAPTURED THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 250 C.C. LIGHTWEIGHT T.T. EVENT.

    ENDERS, RIDING A BMW AS NUMBER 6, COVERED THE THREE LAPS OF THE MOUNTAIN COURSE TOTALLING A DISTANCE OF 113.2 MILES (182 KMS) IN A RECORD TIME OF ONE HOUR, 13 MINUTES, 27 SECONDS. HIS AVERAGE SPEED FOR THE RUN WAS 92.48 MILES PER HOUR (148.82 K.P.H.). ENDERS IS NOW IN FIRST PLACE IN THE 1969 WORLD SIDE-CAR CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES WITH 30 POINTS.

    WEST GERMANS ALSO FILLED THE NEXT FOUR PLACES. SIEGFRIED SCHAUZU, LAST YEAR'S WINNER, CAME IN SECOND ON A BMW AS NUMBER 4 AND HELMUT FATH, ON AN URS MACHINE AS NUMBER 9 WAS THIRD.

    SEVENTY CREWS STARTED IN THE 500 C.C. SIDE-CAR EVENT.

    THE THIRTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD CARRUTHERS, ON AN ITALIAN-MADE BENELLI MACHINE, LED THE 250 C.C. LIGHTWEIGHT RACE FROM START TO FINISH TO WIN BY MORE THAN FOUR MINUTES. HE WAS RIDING AS NUMBER 1. THE AUSTRALIAN COMPLETED THE SIX LAPS TOTALLING 226.4 MILES (364 KMS) IN TWO HOURS, 21 MINUTES, 35.2 SECONDS WITH AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 95.95 M.P.M. (154.4 K.P.H.).

    CARRUTHERS' VICTORY ENDED THE JAPANESE DOMINATION OF THE 250 C.C. EVENT OF THE PAST EIGHT YEARS. THE JAPANESE HONDA AND YAMAHA WORKS MACHINES DID NOT COMPETE IN TODAY'S RACE. HIS WIN ALSO PUTS HIM AT NUMBER FOUR OF THE WORLD CHAMPION POSITIONS IN THE 250 C.C. CLASS WITH 15 POINTS.

    BRITAIN'S F. PERRIS CAME IN SECOND ON A SUZUKI AND S.R. HERRERO, OF SPAIN, TOOK THIRD PLACE ON AN OSSA.

    THERE WERE 79 STARTERS IN THE EVENT. THE NEXT RACE IN THE T.T. SERIES AT DOUGLAS WILL BE THE 350 C.C. EVENT ON WEDNESDAY (11 JUNE).
