Background: Former world champion, Jock Taylor of Great Britain, won the second leg of the sidecar race at this year's Isle of Man TT Races on June 7. Taylor, with passenger Benga Johannson of Sweden, set a lap record of 174 kilometres per hour (108.29 miles per hour). Riding a 700 Windle, they completed the three laps of the course in a time of 1 hour 4 minutes and 0.06 seconds. They averaged 170 kilometres (106.09 mils per hour) for the race. In second place was husband-and-wife team, Dennis and Julia Bingham, also of Great Britain, who finished one minutes behind Taylor. Third place went to another Great Britain rider, Steve Abbott. Although Taylor did well in the second leg, an incident in the first leg on June 5 robbed him of overall victory. Taylor hit a roadside bank and finished in 18th place. The overall winner of the sidecar trophy was Roy Hanks of Great Britain, who finished 3rd in the first leg, and 5th in the second.
