Background: On their first day in Holland Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will stay in the Royal Palace of Amsterdam.
Built in 1648, it is situated on the Dam in Amsterdam. In Her Majesty's salon is a beautiful portrait of King William 1st. There is also an attractive escritoire - if Her Majesty finds time to use it. Leading off is her bedroom.
The Moses Room is the name of Prince Philip's salon, so called after the painting "Moses in Jetro," by Bronckhorst.
The walls of the room are covered with paintings of the 17th century. The salon provides a broad view out over Dam Square, the, very heart of Amsterdam.
Louis Napoleon is reputed to have slept in the bed in the room Prince Philip will use. The bed was made to his special order in 1808, and is covered with a gold-embroidered bedspread. The room also has an attractive fireplace.
