Background: ENGLAND, THE WORLD CUP SOCCER CHAMPIONS, ARRIVED IN MEXICO CITY ON THURSDAY (28 MAY) TO BEGIN A TWO-WEEK TOUR OF LATIN AMERICA. THEY WILL MEET TEAMS IN URUGUAY AND BRAZIL AFTER THEIR OPENING MATCH IN MEXICO CITY ON SUNDAY (1 JUNE.)
TEAM MANAGER SIR ALF RAMSEY AND MEMBERS OF THE TEAM WERE WELCOMED AT THE AIRPORT BY MR. CHARLES PETER HOPE, BRITAIN'S AMBASSADOR TO MEXICO.

AT A BRIEF NEWS CONFERENCE, SIR ALF SAID THAT BOTH THE INTENSE HEAT AND THE HIGH ALTITUDE IN MEXICO CITY MAY BE A PROBLEM FOR ENGLAND. BUT HE ADDED THAT THE SITUATION WAS SIMILAR TO THAT WHICH THE MEXICAN TEAM FACED WHEN IT TOURED EUROPE. SIR ALF WENT ON TO SAY THAT THIS TOUR WOULD PROVIDE A REHEARSAL FOR THE 1970 WORLD CUP WHICH WILL BE PLAYED IN MEXICO CITY.
