TRANSCRIPT SEQ 4: SYRIAN AMBASSADOR: "Israel destroyed refuges camps. Forcibly deported and is deporting them. Turned the hospitals and schools into military garrisons, prisons, and jails. Expelled the Arab civilian population, resorted to collective punishment, destroyed whole villages, INDISTINCT and INDISTINCT quarters, confiscated and are still confiscating Arab properties and lands. Established settlements in all occupied territories; in the Golan Heights, in the West Bank of Jordan, in Sinai, all of which constitutes, in accordance with the Nuremberg legislation, crimes of war and crimes against humanity."
SEQ 6: UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR: "Both sides have put forward positive ideas. Both sides hold firmly to key points. Both sides will be required to make adjustments in their position, if an interim agreement is, indeed, to be achieved. It is our hope that all who rise to speak on this agenda item will bear in mind that in the last analysis, it is the parties themselves that will have to negotiate the terms of a Middle East peace settlement. Peace cannot be imposed on the area by outsiders."
SEQ 8: UNITED KINGDOM AMBASSADOR: "Over the past year, there have been three main attempts to bring about a settlement. First, the continued and continuing, efforts of the Secretary General a special representative, Ambassador Jarring. Secondly, the initiative of the United States, designed to bring about an interim arrangement providing for the reopening of the Suez Canal. And thirdly, the mission undertaken recently by the Organisation of African Unity."

Background: Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations George Tomeh on Friday (10 December) accused Israel of expelling their Arab civilian population, destroying villages, and confiscating Arab property and land.
These acts, he told the General Assembly in Friday's Mid-East debate, in accordance with the legislation passed at Nuremberg, constituted crimes of war and crimes against humanity.
United States Ambassador George Bush pointed out that peace cannot be imposed on the area by outsiders. In the last analysis he said, it is the parties themselves who will have to negotiate peace settlement terms.
Britain's Ambassador, Sir Colin Crows, spoke of the three attempts made over the past year to bring peace to the Middle East--the efforts of the United Nations special representative Ambassador Gunnar Jarring the U.S. initiative, and the recent mission undertaken by the Organisation of African Unity.
