Background: Hundreds of farmers and breeders from all over the Eastern bloc, have been exhibiting their animals and birds at show in Oroshaza. The shows are becoming increasingly popular, but several of the spectators may have felt a twinge of remorse as they saw red and silver foxes on show. Many of them were wearing fur coats made from the skins of the animals. The farmers in the region make a good profit from their foxes. The show also attracted some magnificent pigeons. Many of the birds were exotic. The peacock pigeon vied for attention with real peacocks strutting in their cages. Although most of the exhibitors show their birds and animals in competition for pleasure, pigeon and rabbit exports bring in some fifty million dollars a year for Hungary, so the animals and birds are an economic resource for the country.
