Background: INTRODUCTION: Harry Everts of Belgium won both heats of the Yugoslav 125 cc Motorcross Grand Prix at Trzic, Yugoslavia on Sunday (24 MAY) - and in so doing snatched the lead in the World Championship standings from Michele Rinaldi of Italy. It was not Rinaldi's lucky day: he fell in the first heat and his Ghilera motorcycle broke down in the second. By the end of the day's racing he had slipped form first to joint third place in the world standings.

And the luckless Michele Rinaldi.

The Trzic circuit has a reputation among riders for testing both men and machines to the limits of their capabilities.

Last year it was Harry Everts' turn to suffer. He fell out of the running when he broke his arm. But the 1981 event told a different story. The 29-year-old Belgian's Suzuki was out in front from the start of the first heat. But a desperate struggle was being fought further down the field as riders battled not only for a place in the event but also to improve their world standings.

Everts, currently world champion for the fourth time, never really faced a serious challenger.

Twice Everts turned a decisive lead into certain victory as he roared past the chequered flag to win both events.

Second overall was Evert's fellow-countryman Marc Velkeneers, with Akira Watanabe of Japan third. Velkeneers moves to second place in the world standings. With Watanabe joint third with Rinaldi.
