TRANSCRIPT: U THANT (SEQ. 2): "I believe I stated my decision very clearly in January this year in the course of a press conference. Since then I have reiterated my decision on several occasions. I just want to reiterate my position and my decision. As you will recall, in 1966 on First of September I decided to retire at the end of my first term. At that time, because of the reasons known to all of you, I had to reverse my decision and even at that time I made it very clear that the second time would be my last time. I also said that nobody should aspire to serve as the Secretary - General o the UNITED NATIONS for more than one term, because of the nature of the work involved and because of the tremendous responsibilities, if I may say so, without authority. So this is not a new decision and I just want to make this very clear that I will not serve beyond my present term even for a limited period of one year, or two years, or two months under any circumstances".
