Background: The Msi congress closed this morning at 0400 after three days of arguing and bickering. Secretary of the party, Giorgio Almirante was reconfirmed as leader. Almirante who at one time an side to Mussolini has led the party for more the a decade. Last month 19 moderate mps split form the party of form another party, National Democracy. The Neo-fascist Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI) is therefore now left in the hands of the hard core rightwingers. Almirante said last night in his thank-you speech to the 1900 delegates present that the party must move further to t right in its attempt to counteract the Communists, who according to Almirante have already begun the "historical compromise" to share power with the Christian democrats who have ruled since the end of the war. The new policies of the MSi are expected to favour extremist right wing groups and probably will fost episodes of political violence.
