Background: "Bluebird" - the million pound, 400 m.p.h. car in which Donald Campbell will challenge the world land speed record in September, had her first powered run at Goodwood track, UK, July 21. Speed 25.m.p.h.

Champion motor-racing driver Jack Brabham was on hand for the trial; so too was Leo Villa, for 40 years chief engineer first to sir Malcolm Campbell, then to his son Donald.

Campbell's single circuit of the track was designed to test his giant car's 4,000 horse-power Bristol Siddeley 'roteus' engine; a towed circuit on July 18 proved "Bluebirds" steering; future tests will help devise tyre-changing and fuelling routines to be used at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA, where the record attempts will be made.

A VISNEWS cameraman was told by Mr. Campbell that "Bluebird" represented a triumph of British engineering genius; it had handled beautifully on the narrow, twisting track.
