Background: France's 'train-with-a-view' made its inaugural run at Paris, Feb 13. This double-decker, 88-seater diesel train has been designed to give maximum comfort without decreasing the carriages' capacity. French Railways hope to attract more tourists to sightseeing by rail. 44 1st Class seats are on the upper deck.
Powered by an 800 hp engine it can travel through the picturesque mountain districts with ease.
Everything has been designed for comfortable viewing - adjustable arm-chair type seats, sound-proof floorboards, air-conditioning, heated windows to combat frost and tinted panes to prevent eye strain.
Each engine tows two carriages, is built by Renault and will be in service as from June this year.
