Background: Ten Cubans, captured by Castro forces during the recent abortive invasion of Cuba, arrived in Washington from Miami, Florida. May 22 to meet Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt and others interested in purchasing 500 tractors demanded as ransom by Fidel Castro for the repatriation of 1,214 other prisoners held by him.
From Washington Airport, they drove with Dr. Miro Cardona - head of the rebel Revolutionary Council - to the Statler Hotel where they met Mrs Roosevelt, Walter Reuther the Trade Union leader, and Dr. Milton Eisenhower, who are heading a committee to raise the necessary money.
