Background: Zaire's Second national Fair continues to be extremely popular with the people of Kinshasa since its opening last month.
Near the end of the first week (6 July), people were still turning out in large numbers to visit various stands at the exhibition -- whose theme this year is "buy national products."
In addition to the more serious economic pavilions, there are plenty of amusements for the younger visitors to enjoy.
The Second National fair is considered to be an economic indicator of the progress made under the leadership of President Mobuto Sesse Seko.
SYNOPSIS: Nearly a week after it's opening, care still fill the parking lot at Zaire's Second National Fair in Kinshasa. The exhibition--which opened on 30 June to coincide with the twelfth anniversary of the country's independence from Belgium--has continued to draw large numbers of people each day.
The theme for this year's fair is "buy national products." But despite the serious economic message of the exhibition, there's plenty of fun for the children. Many amusements have been erected on the park grounds--and naturally, the young visitors get great enjoyment from riding on them.
For adults, the pavilions tell the story of economic progress made under the leadership of President Mobutu Sese Seko.
All in all, Zaire's Second National fair has proved to be an unprecedented success for everyone.
