THERE FOLLOWS THE TRANSCRIPTION OF ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF PRESIDENT NIMEIRY'S COMMENT (ON FILM) ON AFRICAN ACTION AGAINST ISRAEL:

"Joint African action against Israel has been well reflected in the last resolution adopted by the O.A.U. Summit in May in Addis Ababa. That was followed also by an actin on behalf of the O.A.U. at the Security Council, when a delegation led by the current Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Organisation, who happened to be the Foreign Minister of Nigeria, played a very important role in the deliberations of the Council in the... (unclear)... The resolution adopted was the basic minimum, but there was a consensus that additional action would certainly come if Israel continued in its intransigence and refused to abide by the resolutions of the O.A.U. and indeed resolutions of the United Nations, both the General Assembly and the Security Council. This, of course, will not exclude individual action by individual African States. Nobody is expecting from Government and from States to do more than they objectively capable of doing."

Background: Sudan's President Jaafar el Nimeiry ended a week-long official visit to Nigeria on Wednesday (29 August, 1973) in which he held wide-ranging talks with Nigeria's Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon. Their discussions covered the Middle East, the Somalia-Ethiopia border conflict and bilateral relations. In a joint communique, the two leaders announced the concluding of a cultural, scientific and technical cooperation agreement to examine trade, air, telecommunications and possible rail links between their two countries. They pledged support for African national movements, the Organisations of African Unity (OAU) of which General Gowon is Chairman and the United Nations. President Nimeiry invited his host to visit the Sudan "in the near future."
On the final day of his visit President Nimeiry held a press conference in Logos, in which he described himself as an outright enemy of the Communist Party, which, he said, was "not geared to the realities of life, especially in Africa." He added that he would never permit the creation of any political party in the Sudan.

On the Middle East crisis, President Nimeiry said the big powers should bring pressure to bear on Israel to return Arab lands, otherwise there would be war.

President Nimeiry left Lagos for Conakry, Guinea, to continue his three-week tour of West Africa.
