Meanwhile Connors fought his way past his compatriot, Vitas Gerulaitis, seeded number three, to also win in straight sets.
SYNOPSIS: From the moment Connors began his semi-final with Gerulaitis he seemed determined to win. It was a hard fought first set with both players breaking each other's services early on. Connors avoided one set point himself and then won this rally to take the first set by nine games to seven. The set lasted 70 minutes.
Connors, who has lost two Wimbledon finals in the past three years, took control after having gained the first set. He won the second set by six games to two and then shot to a five games to one lead in the third.
