Background: For the first time ever the World Champion Racing Driver's Trophy was presented posthumously in London today (17 November). Nina Rindt, window of the late Austrian racing ace Jochen Rindt, collected the trophy on his behalf.
Jochen Rindt, who died in a crash in Monza in September, had collected enough points in the championship table to be unbeatable.
The retiring champion, Jackie Steward, presented Mrs. Rindt with the trophy. She flew to London with her two-year old daughter especially for the occasion.
Among the many starts of the motor racing world who attended the award ceremony were Graham Hill, Jack Brabham and the head of the Lotus group, Colin Chapman.
