Background: For many years there had been archaeological speculation about the possibility of ancient communities having been existent on the shores of Lake Neuchatel, Switzerland. Scant evidence and theories were all that there was to work on, until recently. Lumping together all the clues they had making certain deductions, archaeologists form the Cantonal Museum marked out a general area where an ancient village might have been. On the basis of these calculations frogmen began exploring the lake shore, meticulously searching the bed of the lake, examining shapes and forms that they saw in the misty world of the water.

After several weeks of such diligent exploration some finds were made. Gradually over the last few weeks a picture has emerged, there was a lake village in the area. So far a terra cotta vessel, shaped and decorated, has been brought to the surface and examined. The experts from the Cantonal Museum put its age at about 3,400 years. Later the frogmen discovered a pendant dating from the bronze age. Soon the stilts on which this village stood were found. Various structural parts of the dwelling places have been brought ashore. Slowly much information about the this long dead community and its people has been compiled. The success of the explorations are such that a definite date has been attached to the village. It is reckoned to be, at the very least, 2,000 years old!
Although finds vary from day to day, the search will continue, until such time as it is thought unprofitable to persist.
