Background: Following the recent visit of a Swedish Government selection mission, led by Mrs. Agda Rossel, Chairman of the UN Sub-committee for Women's Rights, a party of 64 refugees from Communist countries, living in camps in various parts of Greece, all of whom are suffering from T.B. or other handicaps, left for Sweden this morning.
The party is composed of 14 Bulgarians, 20 Albanians and 30 Yugoslavs, with some children and babies. Upon arrival in Sweden they will be placed in hospitals or sanatoria until they are well again and able to support themselves and their families. The movement of these refugees, who were presented to the Swedish Mission by the World Council of Churches, will be undertaken by the Inter-Governmental Committee for European Refugees, in co-operation with the Swedish Government.
This action was undertaken following the initiative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, who requested the Swedish authorities to assist with the problem of camp clearance and, particularly, with the handicapped refugees in Greece.
