    AT THE END OF THE CHAMPIONSHIPS, A FEW CONTESTANTS WERE SELECTED TO REPRESENT JAPAN IN THE COMING OLYMPICS.

    JUDO WILL FORM PART OF THE OLYMPIC PROGRAMME FOR THE FIRST TIME IN TOKYO IN OCTOBER 1964.

    AMONG JAPAN'S TOP CONTESTANTS WERE: MESSRS. INOKUMA (FIRST GRADE), SAKAGUCHI (FIFTH GRADE)KAMINAGA (FIFTH GRADE), FUJITA AND KURIMJRA. MR. KAMINAGA EMERGED THE WINNER.

    MEANWHILE, THE SOVIET UNION WON THE EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE EUROPEAN JUDO CHAMPIONS HELD IN EAST BERLIN, GERMANY, RECENTLY. THEY RETAINED THE TITLE THEY WON LAST YEAR BY BEATING HOLLAND 3-2.

    FRANCE WERE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL NATION IN THE INDIVIDUAL EVENTS; THE SOVIET UNION WERE NEXT BEST WITH FOUR GOLD AND TWO SILVER MEDALS, AND HOLLAND THIRD WITH TWO GOLD, FIVE SILVER AND TWO BRONZE. BRITAIN GAINED ONE GOLD AND FOUR BRONZE MEDALS.

    SIXTEEN COUNTRIES PARTICIPATED.
