Road blocks into Nicosia supposed to have been removed, but bus loads of Turkish Cypriots from outlying villages were stopped by Greek irregulars. Passengers in the buses were taken to prisons and had their money taken from them. The United Nations observer, General Gyani, was called to the scene and talked to the passengers. Also Cyril Picard, acting High Commissioner in Nicosia. The Turkish Cypriots had their money returned to them out of British funds on Picard's instructions. Greek Cypriot police then returned money to British funds. Greek Cypriots believed buses held arms. Convoys of buses returned to the villages after the incident.
