Background: At Newark, Delaware, a couple of America's newest tanks make their first public appearance. A new car is on hand too, to set the pace for the M-48-A-2 vehicles, latest in the Army's medium tank series.
The first of these new tanks have already been delivered to the Army's field forces. They're part of the group of nine hundred vehicles being built by the Chryaler Corporation at its Delaware Defence Plant.
Inside that plant, there's a regular assembly line set-up, reminiscent of the Korean War activity. The M-48-A-2 is the latest refined member of the Patton family, a highly successful and proven line of war machines.
Its armanent includes a 90 mm, gun and a compliment of machine guns. Now it's time to see how the Patton performs on an obstacle course.
The four man crew of the vehicle climb in and away she goes, cruising at 30 mph. in a fancy exhibition of crushing devastation. First obstruction in her way a row of telephone poles. But, effortlessly, she smashed them. Next there came a frame house. Again the tank exhibits its bull-dozing characteristics. This was a dramatic show, that proved the Patton family's latest arrival to be a credit to the honour of the family, both on land and in water.
