Background: London's Arsenal Football Club moved into the quarterfinals of the European Champions's Cup Wednesday night after defeating Switzerland's Grasshoppers 3/0 in London. This was the second time the two teams had faced each other. Arsenal, with their earlier 2-0 victory against the Grasshoppers in Zurich two weeks ago, go through with a 5-0 aggregate win.
SYNOPSIS: Football--and in London on Wednesday England's Arsenal beat the Swiss Grasshoppers three-nil in European Cup game. Arsenal gained possession and attacked the Grasshopper goal from the start. Although first attacks were foiled, Arsenal's Kennedy put them in the lead in the forty-second minute.
This was the second time in two weeks that the teams had faced each other. On the previous occasion Arsenal won two-nil in Zurich. A win at home would put Arsenal safely into the European Champions' Cup.
Arsenal kicked off in the second half and continued to keep the pressure on the Grasshoppers. The Swiss played bravely, but in the end this team of part-time players were overwhelmed by the English professionals.
Within three minutes of the second half, an easy goal by George put Arsenal two goals ahead--and it was left to Radford, eight minutes from the end, to give Arsenal their final goal, and a final two match aggregate of 5-nil to put them into the quarterfinals of the European Champions's Cup.
