Background: The Viet Cong today (Monday) launched fresh attacks on Phnom Penh's already severely damaged International Airport. Mortars and anti-tank rockets rained on the military area of the airport, five miles (eight kilometres) from the centre of the city.
The Viet Cong began their attacks on the Cambodian capital and the airport early on the morning of January 22. The following day they shelled the centre of the capital.
A thin line of troops was thrown around Phnom Penh, but it didn't prevent the police premises being hit. The Viet Cong set off bombs outside the building....a number of people were killed and injured. At the same time bomb exploded outside the residence of the South Vietnamese Ambassador.
