Background: Mrs. John F. Kennedy and Secretary General U Thant of the United Nations received special copies of a book commemorating the visit of Pope Paul VI to the United Nations. The two volume work will be offered for sale to aid flood-devastated Florence.
The presentation was made by Franco Maria Ricci, an Italian publisher.
The book is called Oratoria Dominica. One volume contains the message of Pope Paul VI to the United Nations in October 1965 with a preface by the Secretary General. The other volume contains the Lord's Prayer in 155 languages and 34 alphabets.
After Florence was flooded, the publisher offered the proceeds from the book's sale to the Committee to Rescue Italian Art.
U Thant signed 400 copies of the work, which will be sold in the United States for 350 dollars each.
The presentation took place at the Grolier Club in New York City, with Cardinal Spellman, the Italian Ambassador, and the United Nation Vatican observer in attendance. Cardinal Spellman heads the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York.
