Background: The Foreign Minister of Morocco, Monsieur M'Hamed Boucetta, arrived in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania on Wednesday (18 April) for an official visit.
SYNOPSIS: A welcoming party of Mauritanian government officials was at the airport to greet their visitor. Monsieur Boucetta is secretary-general of the Istiqlal Party in Morocco. He retained the Foreign Affairs portfolio when the new Moroccan Prime Minister Maata Bouabid reshuffled the Cabinet. At the head of the welcoming party was the Mauritanian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Monsieur Ahmedou Ould Abdallah.
Monsieur Boucetta's visit came less than two weeks after Mauritania's President Ould Saleck dismissed his government and announced a new supreme military committee to rule the country. A key topic in Monsieur Boucetta's talks here was the Western Sahara, which Spain ceded in 1976 to Mauritania and Morocco, who've been engaged there in a struggle against Polisario guerrillas.
