Background: June 8 - second day of his 4-day visit to Norway - British Premier Macmillan attended the unveiling by King Olav of a memorial to Britons killed in Norway during World War Two.

The memorial - kneeling figure in bronze of a sorrowing mother by noted Norwegian sculptor Emil Lies - stands in a hillside cemetery on Oslo's outskirts, where a hundred of the 2,000 British soldiers, sailors and airmen who perished in Norway lie buried. King Olav was wearing the uniform of Commander in Chief of the Army as he pulled away the covering Norwegian flag to reveal the kneeling statute, which was erected by public subscription.

Mr. Macmillan said the scene and setting of the beautiful Norwegian graveyard were so like Britain that he felt the British dead were almost at home.

Earlier in the morning, accompanied by Lady Dorothy Macmillan, he had laid a wreath at the Olso memorial to Norwegian Resistance men who died during the German occupation.
