    TRANSCRIPT:

MR. DANIEL HAUGHTON: "Well now. I came over here to renegotiate the contract in certain respects, but I didn't say I came to pay any more for the engine, you know. Look, I want to go into that before I say we're going to pay any more or anything about the engine, because you know, sure, you've got some inflation in England -- but we've got some inflation in the United States too. And I think its fair to say that about 78 per cent of this effort is Lockheed's and about 22 per cent of it's Rolls'. And I got a couple of problems myself and what I've been through negotiating my settlements with my own defence department and everything, so I don't want to seem to imply that I came in here with my pockets full of money. My pockets may look a little full, but that's because I got cigarettes and everything in them."

REPORTER: "But would it be fair to assume that you've come over here prepared to wipe the slate clean and forget about penalty clauses?"

HAUGHTON: "I've found.....I'm coming over here with an open mind to sit down with the parties concerned and try to reach a satisfactory solution to all of us."

Background: The Chairman of the United States Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Mr. Daniel Haughton, arrived in London today (February 17) for talks with Britain's Rolls-Royce engineering company. The negotiations will centre round a contract between the two companies for Rolls-Royce to provide RB 211 jet engines for the Lockheed Tristar airliner. Rolls-Royce, following its recent financial crash, is unable to provide the engines under the terms of the existing contract -- which will now have to be renegotiated. This production shows Mr. Haughton, soon after his arrival in London, commenting on the situation.
