Background: The International Olympic Committee has been meeting in Rome this week while continued strikes hamper work on the site for the 1976 Games in Montreal.
On Wednesday (14 may), the Committee issued a categorical denial that it had held an emergency meeting to discuss the situation on the Canadian site, where union action by construction workers has halted progress on the new sports complex.
The Canadian Organising Committee held a press conference on Wednesday to issued a statement denying that an emergency meeting had been held and later an I.O.C. spokesman said the Rome meetings had been arranged a year ago.
The Canadian spokesman said that everything was being done to end the strikes so that the Games could go ahead on schedule, adding a postponement until 1977 would be impossible.
