Background: A one-day conference was held in the Algerian capital of Algiers on Wednesday (11 October) for liberation organisations from Africa, Asia and Latin America.
SYNOPSIS: After the conference, various delegates spoke to newsmen. Mr. M. Laina, representing the Polisario Front which is fighting for the Western Sahara, said their fight with the Mauritanian Government was about self-determination for the people of the Sahara. Mauritania, he said, must withdraw its troops.
Mr. Saul Ndlovu, representing the Patriotic Front struggling for Rhodesia, said that nothing the interim Government in Salisbury did would deter the Front from fighting for complete black majority rule.
The representative of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, Mr. Abou Hassan, spoke on the Egyptian-Israeli peace negotiations. He said the Camp David accords had made 30 years of fighting for the Arab and Palestinian cause meaningless. He said Israel had shown it was imperialist by helping right-wing Christians in the Lebanon Civil War.
