Background: Helping to ease Cologne's parking problem is an automatic parking lift based on the invention of the fair-ground "Big Wheel."
This rotating lift, operated by a big City store for customers, houses 20 cars between the hug and the rim of the "Wheel."
Parking by this method is quick. Shoppers drive the car up a ramp and into one segment of the "Wheel."
Having locked the car doors, the driver receives a receipt and a lift attendant sets the "Wheel" in rotation by a key. The key is one of 20 - one key for each appropriate segment.

On return, the shopper presents the receipt and the attendant turns the key to descend the car to the ramp.

The "Big Wheel" is easy to erect on small sites. This big store also operates a five-storey parking building for 300 cars.
