Background: Tunisian Minister of Information Mohammed Masmoudi, arrived at Early Airport, Paris, Feb 7. Although his mission is estensibly concerned with film and television contacts, he admitted to newsmen that it could have a bearing on the expected meetings between President de Gaulle and President Bourguiba at which the first moves would be made towards peace in Algeria.
Questioned as to whether he would see the French President while in Paris, M.Masmoudi recalled that three years ago, while Tunisian Ambassador to France, he had gone to Colombey to salute General de Gaulle, in whom he saw the " incarnation of French conscience". He would now find it agreeable as a Minister to pay his respects to the French leader.
Unconfirmed reports from Tunis Feb 6 said President de Gaulle had invited President Bourguiba to Paris with a view to seeking his good officers for a negotiated settlement of the Algerian conflict. President Bourguiba is going to Switzerland Feb 10 for throat treatment, and further developments are expected during his three-weeks stay here.
