Background: At St. Tropez, the French Riviera resort made famous by stars of the screen and theatre, a Paris company is making a comedy film called "The Gendarme Takes a walk" ("Le Gendarme en Balade").
At one stage during the filming the "gendarmes" (among them the well-known comedian De Funes) dressed up as hippies to blend with local surrounding.
This is the fourth in the "Gendarme" series; it follows "The Gendarme of ST. Tropez", "The Gendarme at New York", and "The Gendarme Gets Married". Filming will go on at St. Tropez for two months. "The Gendarme Takes a Walk" will be released in September.
The sequence filmed yesterday (Thursday) gave the team of actors an chance to give their own interpretation of hippie life around the Riviera playground. Louis de Funes was ably assisted by Michel Galabru, Jean Lefebre, Guy Grosso, Michel Modo and Christian Marin.
