Background: With two years still to go before the next winter Olympics, the Soviet skiing team is already in training. A week ago (23&23 September) about 100 ski jumpers from all over the Soviet Union gathered in Kavgolovo near Leningrad for a two-day competition.
Among the Olympic class skiers were Alexei Borovitin of Kirov, Yuri Kalinin of Leningrad, Gari Napalkov of Gorki and Eduard Chernshev of Kirov. Kalinin made the best distance with jumps of 70 metres and 71.5 metres.
The 1976 Winter Olympics are to be staged for a second time in the Austrian city of Innsbruck. The 1964 Olympic ski-jump will be used again along with the ski rune, bob-sleigh and tobogganing courses.
