Background: Horse racing, and in the United States a 10 to one chance won Saturday's (5 November) Washington D.C. International turf classic at Laurel, Maryland. Johnny D was one of four United States entries in the race ... and came home ahead of the top-rated American horse Majestic Light, which started second favourite.
SYNOPSIS: On the final stretch it was Johnny D out in front with Majestic Light coming second and the hot favourite Exceller coming up on the outside trying to give France her fifth successive triumph in the classic. With an eighth of a mile still to go, Johnny D had the lead by four lengths, and coming up to the 16th furlong it was still Johnny D from Majestic Light. At the finish it was 10 to 1 chance Johnny D...whose speed in the soft going after heavy rains brought him through, with Majestic Light second.
