Background: The Soviet Union increased Europe's chances of winning the Inter-Continental Basketball Cup after beating Argentina 82 to 72 on their home court at Luna Park Stadium, in Buenos Aires on Saturday (11 June).
SYNOPSIS: At the beginning, the Argentinians, playing in the blue and white striped shirts, put up a strong attack by capitalising on some of the Soviet offensive play.
Included in the Soviet team were some of those who won the gold medal in the 1972 Olympics.
Some spirited play by Argentina wasn't enough. The Soviet Union ended the first half with an eight point lead.
The height of the Soviet players dominated play again in the second half. They easily took down the rebounds from the missed shots of their opponents.
But Argentina managed to keep in the game with some good inside shooting during the second half, and by taking advantage of the few instances of sloppy play by the Soviets.
