Background: President Sangoule Lamizana of Upper Volta opened the new tourist holiday camp at Arly, near Diapaga, in the eastern region of Upper Volta, on 18th January. After the formal opening ceremony, the President toured the camp and saw the camp hotel, the chalet bungalows for tourists and the swimming pool.
President Lamizana flew in from Ouagadougou for the ceremony. Arly is one of the principal tourist centres of Upper Volta. It has well over a thousand visitors a year. The new camp has 10 chalets with 20 rooms and 40 beds. It hopes to cater for increasing numbers of tourists who come to the Diapaga area to see the exotic landscape and the rare fauna of the region.
