Background: The Minister of the Interior of Bolivia, colonel Mario Adett Zamora, gave a press conference in La Paz on Tuesday (April 4), to show a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives, found during a search for extremists belonging to a left-wing group known as the ELN. Speaking at the house in which the arms were found, Col. Adett Zamora said that the arms had been smuggled into Bolivia by Chilean Communists, along with subversive literature and pamphlets which indicated that the centre of the conspiracy against Bolivia was in Chile.
When the cache was found -- on Monday, April 3 -- a bomb exploded, and Col. Adett Zamora narrowly escaped injury.
SYNOPSIS: Explosives and arms found in a La Paz house on Monday, when troops were searching for the headquarters of a Bolivian left-wing extremist group known as ELN. The day following the discovery, Minister of the Interior Colonel Adett Zamora gave a press conference in the house itself. In an outspoken attack, he laid the blame for the smuggling of the arms and explosives on Chilean communists, confirming, he added, that Chile was the centre of the conspiracy against Bolivia's right-wing government. He said that not only had arms been found, but also large quantities of subversive literature and pamphlets printed in Chile.
When first visiting the raided house the previous day, a bomb exploded and Colonel Adett Zamora closely escaped injury.
