TRANSCRIPT: "Busby survived a rocky start. Lymon Bostock's two run single in the second inning put the Twins in front three to nothing, but that was all the scoring for the Twins. Busby's record is fifteen and eight.

John Mayberry has been swinging the hot bat for the Royals. His double in the fourth drove in the first Kansas City run. It came off Bert Blyleven who went all the way. His record is ten and six. The R-B-I was Mayberry's seventy-fourth. He's six behind league leader Fred Lynn of Boston.

One walk later Tony Solaita hit a three-run homer to put Kansas City in front four to three. And that turned out to be the final score. The American League West race was all but over a few weeks ago but now Kansas City is back in it. The Royals have won seven of their last nine games and their new manager Whitey Herzog said, "These guys are making a genius of me."

Background: The Kansas City Royals baseball team remained in contention in the American League Western Division of the Major Leagues on Wednesday (6 August) with a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twine. Minnesota is a long way back.

The Kansas City attack was highlighted by a 3-run home run off the bat of Tony Solaita in the 4th inning. Earlier, John Mayberry knocked in one run with double. That erased Minnesota's early 3-0 lead.

The win gave Kansas City pitcher Steve Busby his 15th win of the season against 8 defeats. It was also the 15th time this year he remained on the mound during the entire game. He struggled to do it, though, and gave up ten hits to Minnesota.

The win was the 11th in the last 14 games since the team's new manager Whitey Herzog took over.

Bert Blyleven was credited with the loss, his 6th of the season against 10 wins.

Kansas City is now in second place in the Western Division 6 1/2??? games behind Oakland. Minnesota is in 5th place.
