Background: PRESIDENT SUKARNO CALLED ON AFRO-ASIAN NATIONS TO CONFRONT THE UNITED NATIONS, AND GAVE WARNING THAT IF THE ORGANISATION SET UP A WORLD POLICE FORCE IT WOULD FIND ITSELF "WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS". HE WAS SPEAKING TO DELEGATES FROM 37 COUNTRIES AT DJAKARTA ON SUNDAY, GATHERED TO CELEBRATE THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST AFRO-ASIAN CONFERENCE AT BANDUNG.

URGING AFRO-ASIAN NATIONS TO STAND ON THEIR OWN FEET ECONOMICALLY AND REFUSE IMPERIALIST AID, PRESIDENT SUKARNO ADMITTED THAT THIS METHOD OF DEVELOPMENT MIGHT BE MANY TIMES MORE DIFFICULT.

IN A REFERENCE TO THE UNITED STATES INVOLVEMENT IN SOUTH VIETNAM HE SAID THAT NO SOONER HAD THE INK DRIED ON THE 1954 GENEVA AGREEMENT THAN A NEW FORM OF COLONIALISM APPEARED. AMERICAN WITHDRAWAL FROM VIETNAM, SAID PRESIDENT SUKARNO, WOULD MAKE REUNIFICATION POSSIBLE. DELEGATES LOUDLY APPLAUDED THIS REMARK OF THE INDONESIAN LEADER.

THE "IMPERIALISTS" PROTESTED LOUDLY WHEN "VOLUNTEERS" LANDED IN MALAYSIA TO HELP THE "INDEPENDENCE STRUGGLE", BUT THE IMPERIALIST HAD SENT REGULAR TROOPS TO VIOLATE INDONESIA'S BORDER, HE SAID. BRITAIN WAS USING HER ARMED FORCES TO SUPPRESS BORNEO JUST AS THE UNITED STATES WAS DOING IN VIETNAM. CALLING FOR BRITAIN TO WITHDRAW FROM MALAYSIA, PRESIDENT SUKARNO SAID THAT THIS WOULD ENABLE THE PEOPLE TO ELECT THEIR GOVERNMENT BY DEMOCRATIC MEANS.
