Background: Prime Minister Mujibur Rahman of Bangladesh arrived in Iraq last Saturday (5 October) on his way home from addressing the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

The Bangladesh leader was received at noon on the same day by President Ahmed Hassan Al-Bakr of Iraq. The President and his guest discussed ways of further strengthening the friendly relations between their two countries and reviewed the current international situation.

Earlier in the day Premier Mujibur Rahman visited Vice-Chairman Saddam Hussein of the Revolutionary Command Council at his office in the Iraqi National Assembly building.

SYNOPSIS: Before visiting the Iraqi President, the Bangladesh leader called on Vice-Chairman Saddam Hussein of the Iraqi Revolutionary Command Council at his office in the National Assembly building. Among his entourage were Planning Minister Nuril Islam and Acting Foreign Minister Hisham al-Shawi. Matters of interest to both countries were discussed at the meeting.

Though Bangladesh and Iraq are far apart, both countries share a common problem ... internal disorder. Iraq is threatened by a Kurdish rebellion. And, unless it receives urgent international aid, Bangladesh is faced with near starvation and conflict between sharply opposed political ideologies.
