SYNOPSIS: A team of Egyptian experts arrived in Uganda by air on Saturday to replace other foreign experts who'd left the country during President Idi Amin's sweeping expulsions. They included nineteen doctors, sugar and cement experts, and some of their families. The expulsions began earlier this year with a purge of Israeli businessmen and workers, and were extended to about thirty-thousand non-citizen Asians. Recently, British residents in Uganda have been under pressure from the regime to leave.
Even as the Egyptians arrived, President Amin was giving Ugandans a Christmas message -- telling them to go out and rejoice at having rid the country of 'foreign exploiters'.
