Background: In honour of visiting Nationalist Chinese and British military delegations, King Hussein of Jordan arranged a "Beating the Retreat" ceremony at Abdally Camp, Amman, September 6.

British-trained Jordanian bandsmen, including bag-pipers, gave a stirring display of counter-marching while playing their varied instruments for the entertainment of the foreign guests.

The seven-man Nationalist Chinese delegation, led by Army Chief-of-Staff, General Ping Meng-Chi, arrived in Amman September 6 for a three-day stay before going on to visit other Middle East countries.

Air-Vice Marshal Weston of the R.A.F. led a fourteen-man delegation from the British Imperial Defence College. They arrived September 5 and departed September 7.

No reason was given for the co-incidental visits.
