SYNOPSIS: The president arrived in the Bangladesh flag carrier, Bimarn. King Bumibol and Queen Sirikit were at the airport together with other high ranking officials, to greet the party from Bangladesh.
During his three-day state visit, Major-General Ziaur Rahman will be meeting the Thai Prime Minister General Kriangsak Chamanand to discuss bilateral matters. General Kriangsak, who is a military-appointed Prime Minister, will not be standing for election in the forthcoming General Elections in Thailand. But under a new constitution he can be nominated to the post, although not an elected member of parliament. General Kriangsak is credited with giving the country stability and managing to keep a foreign policy of strict neutrality during a difficult period for the region, rocked by conflicts in Indo-china. These conflicts are thought to be among the subjects to be discussed with General Ziaur Rahman.
