Background: VISNEWS cameras at Kimpo Airport, Seoul, South Korea, Feb. 7, filmed the arrival of an eight man US Military Aid Committee headed by Mr. William H. Draper, Chairman of President Eisenhower's Military Assistance Committee, and General John E. Hull, former UN C-in-C Korea. From the airport they drove to Kyung Mu Dai, Seoul. (Presidential Residence) where they were received by President Syngman Rhee.

Upon his arrival Mr. Draper said they were on a mission "to appraise the military assistance programme and the relative emphasis the US should place on military and economic aid. We are here solely to acquire information and opinion concerning subjects relating to our mission.."
The Seoul Government is expected to stress the necessity of continued US aid for the economic reconstruction of South Korea.

A second US survey team is visiting the Philippines, Viet-Nam, Thailand and other South-East Asian countries. Eisenhower's budget indicates that military assistance will be trimmed by 462 million dollars on a world wide basis. How much of this will be cut in the Far East will depend largely upon the findings of these two 'teams'. Countries most heavily dependent on US Military Assistance and defence support in the Far East area - Korea, Nationalist China and Vietnam.
