Background: Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been holding talks on bilateral relations.

SYNOPSIS: On Wednesday night (8 December), the President of the Untied Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nhayyan, held an official reception for the visiting Iranian Foreign Minister, Mr. Abbas Ali Khalatbari. Mr. Khalatbari had earlier held talks with his UAE counterpart, Mr. Ahmed Khalifah al-Suwaidi, about ways of improving co-operation between the two countries.

Mr. Suwaidi said after the official meeting that Mr. Khalatbari had delivered a special message on bilateral relations to the UAE President from the Shah of Iran. He said his talks with Mr. Khalatbari earlier in the day had been fruitful and had covered regional matters of common interest. Others involved in the talks were Deputy Supreme Commander Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs Seif Ben Ghobash.
