    Background: The diamond jubilee celebrations of Zambia's capital, were well under way in Lusaka on Sunday (July 30). The celebrations, attended by delegates from many countries, had begun on the previous Thursday and will last for eleven days.

    A procession, led by the mayor, Mr. Fl???tfort Chirwa, went from the Civic Centre to the cathedral of the Holy Cross and attended a service. Among the other festivities were traditional dances at the Cultural Services Centre.
